Micro Generation systems below 40kW

Microgeneration is classified by ESB Networks as grid connected electricity generation up to a maximum rating of 11kW when connected to the three phase  grid (400V). The vast majority of domestic and agricultural customers are connected to the single phase portion of the distribution grid (230V) and for these customers to be classified as microgenerators the maximum technical rating permitted is 6kW.

Average house with induction cooker and gas heating (radiators and hot water). Will use about 10 units of energy (10 kWh) per day.

With a micro generation system you can reduce that consumption and use excess to heat water or sell it to the grid.

Picture above shows 12 photovoltaic modules. Each module can give 250 W in perfect conditions. DC power of the system above is 3kW (12x0.25kW=3kW). In the sunny summer day that can give you as much as 20 units  per day and in a winter you will get some days with less than one unit made by day!

It is same thing with a wind turbine. If it's blowing strong turbine can supply you with 100% of your energy needs and more, when it's blowing little turbine can supply your TV and lights only.

PV panels faced south and tilted at 35 degrees give highest annual energy yield but your roof and also face other directions

Wind turbine is placed on 12 m mast but open, low turbulence locations give highest energy yields.
